"Children are made readers on the laps of their parents."
~ Emilie Buchwald
I've traveled the world twice over,
Met the famous; saints and sinners,
Poets and artists, kings and queens,
Old stars and hopeful beginners,
I've been where no-one's been before,
Learned secrets from writers and cooks
All with one library ticket
To the wonderful world of books.

Dream Big, Think Big, Do Great Things -- Read!
|
This past year was just fantastic. I finished the summer library season having performed for more than 5500 children and their parents throughout Wisconsin and Illinois in just 2 months. The "Clue Into Your World" program was well received and earned comments like this:
|
"What a delightful show! ... I went shopping in several places around town today and ... Parents and children stopped me to say what a wonderful show it was. It was our best attended show since I have been here (3.5 years …Thanks again for an exciting and entertaining performance! The Library oriented show was very timely, educational and enthusiastic! Kids and adults alike enjoyed the magic, ventroliquism and professional show. Individuals who were there are still coming up to me in town telling me how much they enjoyed the show and wondered how you did some of your tricks (I told them it is a magician's secret). You are indeed talented!"

"Thanks you so much for being an integral part of our Summer Reading Program.
Everyone enjoyed your program at our library! The kids love Chauncey the dog and crayon trick! You did a great job, and we could tell how much the kids enjoyed your show."

"...two wonderful performances on our summer kick-off day. The children were literally shaking with laughter. I appreciated that you combined many book and library references with the magic and mystery. The approximately 350 children and adults at each show greatly enjoyed your performances..." I'm humbled by the words of praise, and am grateful for the opportunity to come and entertain the children and their families at each and every library I've been invited to.
If your library follows the Collaborative Summer Reading Program's theme, then you'll know that this coming year, 2012, features the theme of "Dream Big-Read" for children. I put on my thinking cap and started dreaming about what type of show I want to present for this theme. It just so happens that I was also re-reading a self-help classic called "The Magic of Thinking BIG". And that's when it hit me. That is exactly what I want kids to do. I want them to dream and see themselves doing great things. I want them to think beyond themselves, beyond whatever circumstances may be pulling on them, beyond TV and video games, beyond what seems possible. I want them to DREAM BIG!! And so, my program for 2012 uses that very title:
The Magic of Dreaming Big
It was Charlie 'Tremendous' Jones who said "You are the same today as you’ll be in five years except for two things, the books you read and the people you meet." How true that is. This program takes some of the great ideas for success and repackages them in a kid-friendly way to help children see their own potential for making a difference in their world.
Books like "Have You Filled Your Bucket Today?" and "How Full is Your Bucket - for Kids" are used to help present some positive and encouraging ideas to children and their parents. Kids will come away from this program having laughed, been amazed and learned some valuable life lessons.
This is going to be a great, fun show filled with
|
Magic
Music
Ventriloquism
Puppets
Laughter
Plenty of audience participation and involvement
The message of Read, Read Read!! |
Preschool through 12 years old will come away from this experience having had a wonderfully fun time, but they will be carrying seeds of truth inside as well.
Children need to experience wonder, to laugh, to dream and to see the potential that is already within them. So, although this is a magic show, the real magic is in the message that will encourage both children and parents to read, and dream big!
If you are looking for a crowd-pleasing show that delivers a great message of encouragement, this is the one you want to book.
It's never too early...but don't be too late.
Call today and reserve your date for summer.

|
"Adults loved it, middle schoolers could not stay blase, elementary schoolers were enthralled, even the 4 year olds could tell their mothers about it afterwards."
"We really appreciate how you integrated the use of libraries and books into the program. So many performers say they have a program that features libraries and the summer theme, when what they really mean is they slipped a few words into a standardized program. You made libraries, books and research the central feature of your presentation. Fantastic!

Scott Oberman is an extraordinary performer and reading motivator! The performance includes such a wonderful variety of entertainment at just the right pace that captivated all audience ages and kept them wanting more. Scott's magic, stories, jokes and props were amusing and appropriate for all ages. The audience participation was so much fun and the children were very eager to participate and interact with Scott. As the Youth Services Librarian, I really appreciated the wonderful reading motivation incorporated throughout the performance and the correlating summer reading theme. Scott's entertainment more than met my expectations and the community's.

| Scott,
Your performance at the library was entertaining and educational! We loved how you were able to combine magic and fun with the value of reading! The audience was so excited, and loved every minute of the program. And it was great that you were able to include so many children in your performance! We would love to have you back again!

"I thought you did a great job, especially the way you incorporated "nuggets" of learning, while keeping them engaged in what you were doing"

"There were MANY positive comments after the show. Kids told me they had a good time, and parents said they thought it was great. One mom, who speaks more Korean than English, was laughing so hard after the show that she could hardly speak, but she finally was able to say that she and her children had enjoyed the show immensely."
Ann Piehl -- Whitefish Bay Library

Humor is a great tool for teaching. And that lesson is not lost in this show. Kids will laugh at the silly antics and be amazed by the wonderful magic.
The kids LOVED the show! Thanks so much! In case you were wondering, that was an AMAZING turnout..." Kelly Jahn -- Neosho Library |
